Drive a mere nine miles off US 101, and you will find a hidden treasure. One-quarter mile from the Santa Margarita Lake, this Kampground Of America franchise is a wilderness seekers dream come true. With one hundred RV, tent, yurt, kabin and lodge sites nestled within an actual mountain, one can escape the hustle and bustle of a normal campground. That’s right, no sounds of freeway traffic or trains rumbling through in the middle of the night!

The Santa Margarita Lake KOA is a great base camp for your California central coast adventure. It is located just eight miles from the town of Santa Margarita, seventeen miles from San Luis Obispo and sixteen miles from the town of Atascadero. Morro Bay is forty-five minutes away, Hearst Castle only an hour.

This area of California is on the fast track to becoming the next Napa Valley. With wineries located all around it, you could make wine tasting a vacation!

Drive twenty minutes over the Questa Grade, and you will find the town of San Luis Obispo. Getting its heritage from the Spanish Missions era gives you the filling of stepping back in time. Visit the historical mission, now a museum, catch the farmers market on Thursdays year round or visit the merchant shops.

Located just across from the campground is the Shangri-La Ranch. For a small fee, the folks there will take you on a horseback ride around the ranch, or let you ride the trails at the Santa Margarita Lake, which is right next to them. For those looking to further the horseback adventure, the ranch hands will take you on a fantastic ride along Pismo Beach, located just thirty-seven miles South of the campground. If you happened to have your all terrain vehicle, dirt bike or dune buggy with you, ride on the Pismo Dunes when your horseback riding trip is done.

All this and much more!

So if you are looking for a great place to stay, with friendly folks, then the Santa Margarita Lake Campground is the place.

Welcome To The Santa Margarita KOA
